Thank You For My Math Knowledge

Throughout the years there have been a few “math geniuses” that have made me the mathematician that I am today. These people have made me a better mathematician. They made me question, made me a problem solver but most importantly, made me think…

At the start, it was John Van de Walle who first got me to think about math differently.

Through the next twenty years these people have helped in many and different ways:

  • Marilyn Burns for great problem solving ideas

  • Jessica Shumway introduced me to routines

  • Sherry Parrish introduced me to number talks

  • I had the greatest opportunity to visit Howard County and meet and participate in the think tank of math coaches, So thank you John SanGiovanni. Throughout my five years as a math coach, the Howard County website was a great resource for me and my teachers.

  • Graham Fletcher introduced me to 3-Act Tasks and his progression videos.

  • Cathy Fosnot’s Landscape of Learning helped me to know how to help students reach new levels

  • Thank you Christina Tondevold for her Building Math Minds community. Through her community, I have had the best PD ever...

  • Twitter introduced me to the math content knowledge and blogs of Mark Chubb, Robert Kaplinsky, and Steve Wyborney.

  • In the last three years, BrainingCamp; for the best virtual math tools. They gave me the tools to bridge the ‘P’ in the C-P-A approach. And who introduced me to:

  • Ann Elise Record. Ann showed how to create Share Codes so that I could create a warehouse of remediation activities for my students.

And last but certainly not least, NCTM, through various voices, that have always been there. From the beginning to now. Past, present and future.

I will still and forever be always learning…
